Spatiotemporal determinants of seasonal gleaning

چکیده
Many coastal communities depend on ecosystems for goods and services that contribute to human well-being. As long-standing interactions between people nature are modified by global environmental change, dynamic diversified livelihood strategies enable seasonal adaptation will be critical vulnerable communities. However, the success of such depends a range poorly understood influences. Gleaning, hand-based collection marine organisms from littoral habitats, provides an interesting case study change in social-ecological interactions. It is important strategy, yet gleaning dynamics have not been empirically explored contemporary We examined eight Atauro Island, Timor-Leste, using household surveys satellite-derived maps shallow-water benthic habitats. Our analysis factors affecting decisions glean each season, relationship seafood consumption, pressure near-shore resources. Dynamic harvesting differed among households activity was seasonally heterogeneous. Not all gleaned during season characterised rough sea conditions despite being associated with greater consumption stability seasons. Households also less regularly, catches were smaller, season. Differences participation explained mostly type extent shallow habitat proximate community. In calm positively related total area habitat, percentage hard-bottom predictor activity. findings illustrate how changes biophysical environment mediate human–nature at fine scales through time space. Consequently, this research highlights importance context-specific perspectives understanding drivers fishing ecosystems, access ecosystem benefits limits adaptation. Spatiotemporal analysis of carbon dixoid impact on seasonal rainfall oscillation in Iran
Climate change disturbs the distribution of precipitation patterns and affects water resources. A lot of evidences imply that the increased atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gasses in turn increases the precipitation changes around the world. Thus, since Iran is located in an arid zone of the earth, identifying the effects of CO2 concentrations on Iran precipitation rate is highly importa...
متن کاملModeling Seasonal and Spatiotemporal Variation: The Example of Respiratory Prescribing
Many measures of chronic diseases, including respiratory disease, exhibit seasonal variation together with residual correlation between consecutive time periods and neighboring areas. We demonstrate a strategy for modeling data that exhibit both seasonal trend and spatiotemporal correlation, using an application to respiratory prescribing. We analyzed 55 months (2002-2006) of prescribing data f...
متن کاملSpatiotemporal variability of soil respiration in a seasonal tropical forest
We monitored soil CO 2 effluxes for over 3 years in a seasonally wet tropical forest in Central Panama using automated and manual measurements from 2013 to 2016. The measurements displayed a high degree of spatial and temporal variability. Temporal variability could be largely explained by surface soil water dynamics over a broad range of temporal scales. Soil moisture was responsible for seaso...
متن کاملGleaning answers from the web∗
A wide variety of valuable textual information resides on the Web, but very little is in a machineunderstandable form such as XML. Instead, the content is usually embedded in HTML markup or other encodings designed for human consumption. The information extraction task is to automatically populate a database with content gleaned from information sources such as Web pages. Wrappers are an import...
